Renowned Chinese composer Liu Xi Jin has composed numerous acclaimed Chinese orchestral pieces and his gaohu concerto The Legend of the Merlion is a significant work which describes Singapore. Under the baton of Tsung Yeh, concertmaster Li Bao Shun, who is also the erhu performer during the world premiere of this piece, will once again perform. Hong Xia, Liu Xi Jin’s wife, an accomplished conductor with the honorary title of being one of China’s Top Ten Ethnic Orchestral Music Conductors of Excellence, will conduct SCO. Renowned konghou musician Wu Lin will perform The Seven Great Elements of Buddhism (Tathāgatagarbha) and acclaimed erhu virtuoso Yu Hong Mei, will perform the world premiere of Memorial Day.
