Singapore, 9 October 2019 (Wednesday) – Interweaving music and food, Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant present their signature lunchtime concert ‘Musical Bento Box’ by the river, bringing cheers to the lunch crowd at UOB Atrium. With SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong leading the hour-long performance of melodious music, the concert will take place at the atrium of UOB Plaza from 12.30pm. As the concert’s theme centres around films, event-goers can expect familiar tunes from various movies and television drama while savouring bento sets prepared by Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant. Admission is free.
Kicking off the concert, the orchestra will brighten up the afternoon with an opening piece by Wu Jiahui’s One Half (一人一半); with lyrics by Fan Junfu and music rearranged by Tan Kah Yong. This piece was the music for the movie 881; a 2007 Singaporean musical-comedy-drama film written and directed by Royston Tan, based on Singapore’s Getai scene. Up next, take a trip down memory lane as SCO performs The Apple of My Eye (那些年,我们一起追的女孩), theme song of Those Years (那些年); Shepherd's Song (牧羊曲), theme song of Mission Impossible; and Three-inch Heaven(三寸天堂), theme song of the popular Chinese TV drama Scarlet Heart.
SCO will also perform Like a Swallow(如燕), theme song of the popular local television drama series The Little Nyonya which revolves around the lives of a Peranakan family in Malacca; with music by Chen Jiaming and arranged by Tan Kah Yong. Also in the repertoire is the famous piece Chrysanthemum Terrace (菊花台); with music by Jay Chou and rearranged by Tan Kah Yong; and TV Golden Melody(狮城电视剧金曲选); rearranged by Law Wai Lun. Last but not least, the orchestra will round up the lunchtime concert with Rainbow Connection; with music by Paul Williams and Kenneth Ascher and orchestrated by Phang Kok Jun.
While soaking up the refreshing lunchtime musical experience, audience can also savour a sumptuous $16 bento lunch by Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, which includes Large Prawns with Dried Chilli and Cashew Nuts, Cod Fish with Sweet Wine Sauce, Stir-fried Scallops with Asparagus and XO sauce, Fried Rice with Crab Meat and Dried Scallops, and Homemade Fine Bean Curd with Wolfberries. ‘Musical Bento Box’ is co-organised by SCO and Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant with venue support by UOB.
