Singapore, 11 October 2019 (Friday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will perform at Woodlands estate on 19 October 2019. As part of the SPH Gift of Music Series sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings, the home-grown Chinese orchestra has since brought her distinctive sound to the community through its community concerts. On 19 October 2019 (Saturday) at 6pm, join SCO assistant conductor Moses Gay at Ode to Kampung concert. Residents are welcomed to join the orchestra in walking down the memory lane. Admission to the concert is free.

The concert will commence with the lively tunes from the medley of Liu Jia Chang works - The Past can Only be Remembered (往事只能回味), rearranged by Lincoln Lo and SCO’s composer-in-residence Law Wai Lun. The medley includes: The Past Can Only Be Remembered (往事只能回味), Poems of the Autumn (秋诗篇篇), My Home Is There (我家在那里), Circles (圆圈圈), Seagull (海鸥) and I Love You Meilan(梅兰梅兰我爱你). Singapore is a multi-cultural and multi-religious society, to reflect our kampung spirit; SCO will also be performing a Malay and Indian Folk Song Di Tanjong Katong & Yarkaiyin Kaatchhi, arranged by Sim Boon Yew and Wu Xiao Zhong.

Following next, the orchestra will present song Greatest Hits of Liang Wern Fook (梁文福精选组曲), composed by renowned pioneer of Xinyao, Liang Wern Fook and edited by Tan Kah Yong. This will be the highlight for fans of Xinyao, a popular music movement that blossomed in Singapore in the 1980s. Audiences can sing along to familiar pieces such as: Step by Step (一步一步来), Friendship Forever (细水长流), Singapore Pie (新加坡派), Starting From the Day You Look Back (当你回眸的那天开始), Love’s Refuge (恋之憩) and A Song for You (写一首歌给你).

SCO will then end the concert with The General’s Command (将军令), an ancient tune, rearranged by Gu Guan Ren. This piece will drum up the atmosphere with its imposing tune, as it was adapted from the famous Huang Fei Hong’s films. Last but not least, the orchestra will perform Jiang Ying’s Impressions of Chinese Music (印象国乐大曲), rounding up the beautiful evening with this majestic piece and the crowd wanting more. This concert is co-organised by Sembawang GRC Grassroots Organisations.
