Sharing by the conductors – A collaboration after the “almost” encounter
This is SNYCO’s very first concert for 2022. As the programme curator of this concert, SNYCO Music Director Quek Ling Kiong shared that a survey was conducted last year, where members did a poll for the next concert theme. “Travels, musical voyage” emerged as a hot favourite, and thus Musical Voyage was born.
“This is also the very first collaboration between Boon Hua and Moses. At a time when travelling is most desired but restricted due to various circumstances, Boon Hua and Moses decided to lead the SNYCO members on a voyage, bringing audiences along to various destinations through their music, by playing pieces that portrays different cultures.”
He also expressed that coincidentally, both conductors are young fathers of the same age, outstanding and established in their respective fields. This will be a refreshing experience for the SNYCO members as they perform under the baton of the two conductors.
SNYCO Associate Conductor Moses Gay later on unveiled that they almost met in an overseas encounter, many years ago. “I was glad that Mr Quek suggested this collaboration, I found a new coffee kaki now! We are both excited to embark on this musical voyage together with the talented SNYCO members.”
3 SNYCO members – Nicholas Foo (sheng), Selina Chew (zhongruan) and Qi Yanwei (guan) – will be featured in this concert, performing Grasslands Fantasia; a piece composed by Law Wai Lun and Tan Kah Yong, and adapted by Law Wai Lun. A mixture of traditional and modern works is featured, displaying the versatility of youths’ energy.
