Singapore, August 06, 2024 - Since its inception in 2007, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) has successfully held 92 "Caring Concert Series" performances across 52 medical and social service institutions. This year, as Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) celebrates its 180th founding anniversary, SCO returned to perform once again at the hospital, with Dr. Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information & Ministry of Health gracing the concert as Guest-of-Honour. The concert was met with enthusiastic reception, attracting approximately 500 attendees, and provided uplifting and therapeutic musical experiences for healthcare workers, patients, and caregivers alike.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital has been a pivotal partner in the SCO's "Caring Series" concerts, with a relationship that dates back to the SARS outbreak in 2003. Then, in the early days of normalcy after SARS battle has been declared won, members of the public were apprehensive about visiting hospitals. SCO stepped forward to honour healthcare workers with the gift of music by performing for the public at the atrium. Since then, SCO officially launched the "Caring Series" concert in 2007, endeavouring to spread positivity among patients and healthcare personnel.

Mr. Terence Ho, Executive Director of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra, stated, "The Caring series concerts not only reflects our commitment to society as a people’s orchestra, but it also embodies our mission to share Chinese orchestral music to the community. It is our honour and joy to perform at Tan Tock Seng Hospital as it celebrates its 180th founding anniversary.”

The concert was conducted by Associate Conductor Moses Gay and featured familiar tunes such as Must Strive to Win(爱拼才会赢), Sweet Love(甜蜜蜜), Story of the Little Town (小城故事) and The Moon Represents My Heart(月亮代表我的心). These performances received warm applause from the audience, patients, and healthcare staff at TTSH. We are grateful to all who supported and participated in this event and look forward to our next gathering.
