Singapore, 9 July 2012 (Monday) – The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) held its Fundraising Gala Dinner and Concert, titled Dazzling Reverberations, on 7 July 2012, at the Resorts World Sentosa. The gala event was graced by Guest-of-Honour Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Senior Minister of State of MICA Ms Grace Fu, and many prominent Singaporean leaders and friends of the Orchestra.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Patron of SCO, pen his message on this important occasion, “The SCO has benefitted from strong support and generous contributions from Singaporeans and well-wishers. I hope that the community will continue to support the SCO as it strives to achieve its vision of becoming a world-renowned Chinese orchestra that is uniquely Singaporean”.

The fundraising organizing committee, consisting of Chairman — SCO Board Director Mr Patrick Goh and committee members including Mrs Goh Chok Tong, Mr Seng Han Thong, Ms Lim Sau Hoong and Mr Ngiam Kwang Hwa, has successfully raised $1,406,250 to augment the income of the orchestra so as to sustain the development and operational cost. Mr Goh expressed his appreciations, “I would like to thank all donors and sponsors for your generous donations. Your contributions will continue to play a vital role in supporting SCO achieve its vision and scale greater heights of artistic excellence, bringing Singapore one step closer to achieving its vision to be city of the Arts.”

Contributions have been received from a wide group of donors, ranging from corporate sponsors to individual supporters, with 61% of new donors such as Deutsche Bank, Resorts World Sentosa, Union Steel Holdings Limited and United Engineers Limited, placing SCO as one of the highest fundraising arts groups in Singapore. Furthermore, with overall expenditure kept within 10% of the total amount raised, the effort is indeed encouraging for a not-for-profit organisation.

The fundraising event was filled with appreciation of great food and performances. 67 tables of guests enjoyed a six-course fusion Chinese dinner prepared by celebrity chef of Resorts World Sentosa while SCO performed under the baton of Music Director Tsung Yeh with The Sun from The New Millennium of the Dragon Year, Impressions of Guangdong and Stone-slab Waist Drums from Yellow Earth, of which guests participated in the performance with a hand drum — a special gift token for all guests.

Renowned singer from Taiwan, Tang Na had serenaded the guests with four golden tunes, Falling Flowers Flowing Water, How Can You Not Love Me?, Fortunate and the evergreen Night of Shanghai in her sensational voices, which marked her first collaboration with the Orchestra.

The evening finally concluded with a heart-warming piece by Dick Lee’s Home, specially arranged by local composer Law Wai Lun, which incorporated the national anthem into this version performed in this special event.
