Singapore, 17 April 2013 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)’s annual Mother’s Day Concert returns with a unique flavor this year on 10 & 11 May at SCO Concert Hall. Visually impaired talents, Adelyn Koh (piano soloist) and Stephanie Ow (erhu soloist) will perform with the SCO for the first time! Hwa Siah Musical Association and Thye Hua Kwan Youth Special Stylo Drummers will also showcase their performance at this concert. SCO’s Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong conducts.
Adelyn Koh (11-year old), was born with cornea defect called “Peter Anormaly”. She can only see lights, shadows and colors. She started learning piano at the age of 3 and she is now in Grade 5. She has unveiled her music talent and recorded a CD album with her compositions. She was featured in the advertisement for 2010 Youth Olympic Games and performed at President’s Star Charity for several times. Adelyn will showcase her piano talent, performing a song composed by her called Musical Stream in Spring Time. Another young talent Stephanie Ow (17-year old), a student of Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School, is blind in both eyes from Retinal Dystrophy. She started learning erhu at the age of 14 and obtained distinction in her erhu exam. Stephanie Ow will perform as erhu soloist in Piao Dong Sheng’s Honghu Capriccio and perform Happy Moment together with Adelyn.
SCO has also prepared a line-up of exciting programme for mums, such as Teochew gong and drum music by Hwa Siah Musical Association, medley of Cantonese music and theme songs of television dramas including The Awakening, Good Morning, Sir! The Coffee Shop and Stepping Out., Thye Hua Kwan Youth Special Stylo Drummers will perform with the SCO once again, showcasing their talent in percussion!
