Singapore, 9 July 2013 (Tuesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) celebrates our nation’s birthday with two community concerts on 27 and 28 July. SCO’s Community Series is made possible with the support from the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) under the SPH Gift of Music Series. Both concerts will be conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong.

SCO will perform at the open field next to Buangkok MRT station on 27 July with national tunes you can sing along. You will get to hear Overture 2004 which was inspired by community songs such as Five Stars Arising, Forge Ahead and Singapore Folk Songs Medley by local composer Phoon Yew Tien, Prince Sang Nila Utama and Singa by Law Wai Lun and national theme songs Stand Up For Singapore, Voices From The Heart and Home.

SCO will perform at the Tampines Community Plaza on 28 July with Yeo Puay Hian’s The Heavenly Orchid Garden, Phoon Yew Tien’s Forge Ahead and Singapore Folk Songs Medley, Prince Sang Nila Utama and Singa by Law Wai Lun and national theme songs We Are Singapore, Paaduvan Vaarungal and Home.

The SPH Gift of Music Series has been entertaining Singapore audience since its launch in 2005. Supported by the SPH, the popular free concert series has brought music to the community in various locations such as the heartlands, parks, shopping malls, schools, campuses and the Esplanade.
