Singapore, 30 August 2013 (Friday) – SCO is proud to collaborate with the Composers Society of Singapore to perform the opening concert of the 31st Asian Composers League Festival and Conference 2013 on 20 September, Friday, 8pm at SCO Concert Hall. SCO Music Director Tsung Yeh conducts.

The Asian Composers League (ACL) is the most vibrant and active contemporary music organization in the Asia-Pacific region today. It was established in 1973 to promote, preserve, and develop the musical cultures of the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in the field of music composition. Since then, the Festival and Conference has been hosted annually by the member countries under its auspices.

The theme for this year’s festival is Multiculturalism in Asian Contemporary Music. SCO will present an evening of the best new contemporary works by six Asian composers from Singapore as well as across Asia, including young Taiwanese composer Tsai Ling-Huei’s Chia Found; Raymond Mok’s Cycles of Destiny – which won the Nanyang Award from the Singapore International Competition for Chinese Orchestra Composition 2011; Taiwanese Professor Pan Hwang-Long’s Concerto for Chinese Orchestra 1.; Korean-based American composer Michael Timpson’s Blossom from Sinaethesia; Singapore composer Robert Casteels’s Symphony No.3 Op. 55; and President of the Composers Society of Singapore, Dr Ho Chee Kong’s Passage – Fantasy for Cello and Chinese Orchestra.
