Singapore, 16 September 2013 (Monday) – The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) held its 9th Fundraising Gala Dinner and Concert, titled The Silk Road, on 15 September 2013, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. SCO raised $1,251,500 this year and all proceeds will go into the development and to fund the operating cost of SCO. The event was graced by SCO Patron Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, Mrs Lee, and many prominent Singapore leaders, donors and friends of the orchestra.
PM Lee said in his message, “I hope that the community will continue supporting the SCO as it scales greater heights. SCO benefits greatly from this strong and generous support.”
The Fundraising Gala Dinner and Concert is managed by the fundraising organising committee comprising of committee chairperson, Mrs Goh Chok Tong, with members Mr Seng Han Thong, Mr Patrick Goh, Ms Lim Sau Hoong and Mr Ng Siew Quan. Mrs Goh expressed her appreciation, “I would like to thank all donors and sponsors for their generous donations. Each contribution will play a pivotal role in supporting SCO to achieve its vision and mission to inspire Singapore and the world with our music.”
Contributions were received from a wide group of donors, ranging from corporate sponsors to individual supporters, including the Lee Foundation, Far East Organization, Resorts World At Sentosa Pte Ltd and more.
The evening was filled with a programme of great food and performances. 51 tables of guests enjoyed a five-course Chinese fusion dinner. Music Director Tsung Yeh conducted the SCO with Liu Wen Jin’s The Great Wall Capriccio, Georges Bizet’s Farandole, Vittorio Monti’s Czardas, Huang Xiao Fei’s The Dance of Dunhuang, Law Wai Lun’s Fantasy of the Lion City and the fifth movement from Zhao Ji Ping’s The Silk Road Fantasia Suite for Guan and Chinese Orchestra: Dance of Qiuci. The highlight of the evening featured fundraising chair, Mrs Goh Chok Tong’s vocal performance of four songs – The Nightingale Flying To The Sea (飞向大海的夜莺), Sérénade – Chantez, Riez, Dormez, Sea Love (海恋) and Beating the Long Drum, with piano accompaniment by Tsung Yeh.
The event was graced by SCO Patron Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Mrs Lee.
