Singapore, 6 December 2013 (Friday) –Welcome the Chinese New Year with SCO and Capital 95.8’s DJs in this annual favourite Chinese New Year concert Rhapsodies of Spring on 10 & 11 January 2014! This concert will be conducted by Music Director Tsung Yeh.
This year’s concert is a third collaboration with Capital 95.8FM after two rousing performances in 2008 and 2009. The radio station has specially choreographed a comedy-musical skit titled Welcome the Year of the Horse in the Lion City where DJs will take on the roles of martial arts experts. Besides the skit, DJs Liang Peng, Zeng Sheng Lian and Pan Jia Biao will narrate, storytell and sing a special piece titled Celebrate with 958.
Established singer, Fang Qiong, will charm the audience with her crystal clear voice with popular song list – The Story of the Small Town, Misty Rain, Swan Goose and Petral. Head of Strings at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music, Qian Zhou, will also perform as a special guest violinist in Fang Qiong’s vocal pieces.
To welcome the year of the Horse, SCO will perform Huang Hai Huai’s Horse Racing, Leroy Anderson’s Horse and Buggy and Li Huan Zhi’s merry Spring Festival Overture raises. SCO’s very own guan musician will play hebei folksong Tending Donkeys and a rearrangement work of Chinese pop star Jonathan Lee Zong Sheng and Chinese rock star Cui Jian’s popular song list. There will also be the grand finale sing-along with Capital 95.8FM’s DJs with a medley of Chinese New Year songs including Celebrating the New Year, God of Fortune, Gong Xi Gong Xi and Return of Spring.
