Singapore, 25 April 2014 (Friday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) has successfully gathered 5,200 participants from 125 performing groups, comprising 14 nationalities, and is set to create Singapore’s historical record-breaking moment on 28 June 2014 at Singapore’s newest and largest sports facility – National Stadium.
Our People Our Music aims to bring together Chinese orchestra groups in Singapore, to re-ignite and sustain former orchestra players’ interest and passion in music; to showcase and develop promising orchestra talents and is a tribute to Singapore.
This mega concert is possible only with a broad commitment from the community. SCO is pleased to announce that Temasek has joined Tote Board and National Arts Council as one of the concert’s patron sponsors; along with our partners – Singapore Sports Council, Singapore Sports Hub, Ministry of Education and PAssion Arts.

About Our People, Our Music 2014
To strengthen awareness and appreciation of Chinese music among fellow Singaporeans, Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) gathers all Chinese music lovers to perform together at the newly-built National Stadium, Singapore Sports Hub on 28 June 2014 as part of the opening event of the National Stadium. “Our People, Our Music 2014” will attempt to break 4 records, which include the Singapore Book of Records for the largest Chinese orchestra and the largest erhu ensemble, the Guinness World Records and Singapore Book of Records for the largest Chinese drum ensemble. The concert is choreographed by SCO’s Music Director, Tsung Yeh. Local artiste Vincent Ng will perform martial arts with live music by the mega orchestra while Dick Lee will sing live with the mega orchestra in theme song for 1998’s National Day Parade – Home, to lead the 30,000 audience to the climactic moment of the concert theme “Our Home – Singapore!”.

About the Singapore Chinese Orchestra
Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) is Singapore’s only professional Chinese orchestra. Inaugurated in 1997, the 82-musician orchestra took on the twin role of preserving traditional arts and culture and establishing new frontiers through the incorporation of Nanyang music elements in its repertoire. The Singapore Sports Hub will be Singapore’s premier sports, entertainment and lifestyle hub with integrated community programming.

The Singapore Sports Hub, which is managed by SportsHub Pte Ltd, is one of the largest sporting Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project in the world.
