Singapore, 3 July 2014 (Thursday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) goes to heartland of Aljunied GRC – Hougang on 13 July to present a night of melodic tunes to the community. Located next to the Hougang MRT Station, the concert will be conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. This SCO Community Concert is sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) under the SPH Gift of Music series. Admission is free.
The SCO Community Concert is part of the “Red & White Picnic Under the Stars” event where Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong is the Guest-of-Honour. Organized by the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol Citizens’ Consultative Committee, and featuring a carnival and community performances, the event brings residents from Aljunied GRC & Hougang SMC together to celebrate Racial Harmony Month and Singapore’s 49th Birthday.
Be enchanted with Malay folksongs Rasa Sayang, Chan Mali Chan, Indian folksong Munnaeru Valiba, Kungfu Panda, evergreen pieces – Story of The Little Town, Sweet Love, 999 Roses and National Day theme song Stand Up for Singapore. This concert will also present 3 pieces which were recently performed at Our People Our Music 2014 record-breaking mega concert at the National Stadium on 28 June – Quek Ling Kiong and Phang Kok Jun’s Power Singapura, theme song from movie “Once Upon A Time in China” – A Man Should Stand Strong and Dick Lee’s National Day theme song – Home.
SCO Community Series brings music to your neighbourhood. This popular free concert series reflects SCO’s vision as a people’s orchestra – an institution for the community – where high standard performances are brought to the community.
