Singapore, 28 January 2015 (Wednesday) – As Chinese New Year approaches, SCO celebrates the festive joy with you at the Deutsche Bank – SCO Lunchtime Concert on 11 February 2015, Wednesday, 12pm at One Raffles Quay South Tower! Admission is free.
SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong will conduct the SCO ensemble with a string bustling festive tunes, including Radiant with Joy, Golden Snake Dancing Revelry, Spring Time, Sweet Love, Happy New Year and New Rolling Walnuts. SCO’s sheng musician Kevin Cheng Ho Kwan will play Happiness in the Air and Rising with Each Step, to wish everyone a joyous new year and for prosperity and progress. 19-year-old visually-handicapped erhu player, Stephanie Ow, will perform Spring Dawn in this concert. Stephanie Ow is the first recipient of Deutsche Bank – Singapore Chinese Orchestra Music Scholarship under the Born to Be programme. Though visually-impaired, Stephanie has never let this stand in the way of her passion for the erhu. She aspires to be a professional musician and the three-year scholarship will enable members of the SCO to nurture her artistic talent and aid her towards realising her dream.
The concert will also present popular English songs Top of the World and Seasons in the Sun and Indian folksong Yarkaiyin Kaatchhi. This concert is proudly sponsored by Deutsche Bank. The concert venue is sponsored by Raffles Quay Asset Management.
