Singapore, 20 March 2015 (Friday) – He is one of Singapore’s favourite Ah Bengs, with lots of crude Hokkien jokes and show tune-singing. Glitter-loving “Broadway Beng” Sebastian Tan will return to perform with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) in SCO’s pop concert titled Go Pop with Sebastian Tan! on 18 April 2015, Saturday, 8pm at SCO Concert Hall. SCO Music Director Tsung Yeh conducts.
Sebastian Tan is an artiste with the Dream Academy since 2006. He directed Honk! and Just So for the Singapore Management University’s Arts Festival 2009 and 2010. Notable musical theatre credits include The Broadway Beng Series, Into The Woods, Cinderel-lah, Fried Rice Paradise, Forbidden City, Miss Saigon and Great World Cabaret. Winner of Talent Search 1996, Sebastian has also won the “Best Supporting Actor” in The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards 2009 for the role of “The Queen” in Snow White, “Best Ensemble” in The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards 2010 and “Actor of the Year” in Elle Awards 2007. Sebastian was also featured in the Pioneer Generation Package musical commercial in July last year, where he partnered with Mark Lee in Mandarin to educate on the Pioneer Generation Package.
Sebastian Tan debuted with SCO in May 2012 in SCO’s annual Mother’s Day concert where he serenaded audience with three Hokkien songs. This April, Sebastian Tan will be featured as a superstar in the entire programme which he will sing popular Hokkien songs such as Prodigal’s Mood (浪子的心情), Drunken Aspirations（酒后的心声）, No One Understands My Feelings （心事谁人知）, Dad’s Words （阿爸的话）, Wife （家后） and more! Fans of Sebastian Tan will also sing theme songs of TV dramas such as The Householder （一家之主）and The Price of Peace （和平的代价） (in which he was the original singer), as well as songs like Put Away Your Tears from Liang Wenfu’s musical December Rains, American Dream from Miss Saigon and Misty Morning from Sing to the Dawn.
