Singapore, 15 April 2015 (Wednesday) – SCO’s annual tribute concert to mothers return with a selection of the most beautiful music for mums. Local xinyao singer, Hong Shao Xuan, will sing for our beloved mothers this year in SCO Mother’s Day Concert: A Love Tribute to Mum on 9 May 2015, 8pm at SCO Concert Hall. SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong conducts.
One of Singapore’s established xinyao singers, Hong Shao Xuan is renowned for his pristine crystal clear vocals. Since the 80s, Hong Shao Xuan has collaborated with composers such as Billy Koh, Li Fei Hui and Liang Wern Fook. In this mother’s day concert, Hong Shao Xuan will sing a series of popular songs with SCO including Liang Wern Fook’s When I Think of You, mum’s favourite oldies Evening Primrose, Grassland Fantasia, Hokkien songs Mum Please Take Care, Sweet Heart and theme songs of Hong Kong TV series – Meeting in Pavilion, The Brothers, and Chameleon. Mums are bound to sing along with him!
Audience will also get to learn more about Chinese orchestra through a special commissioned rearrangement work by Law Wai Lun and Lincoln Lo titled Songs of Liu Jia Chang, where narrator Hong Shao Xuan will introduce the audience to the various sections of the Chinese orchestra.
SCO dizi musician Tan Chye Tiong will present Liu Yuan’s dizi concerto Capriccio of Liu San Jie. It is a melody of songs from the popular film Liu San Jie which leads us to picturesque Guangxi and allows us to appreciate the simple and honest characteristics of Guangxi people. SCO’s gaohu musician Xu Wen Jing will also perform excerpts of He Zhan Hao and Chen Gang’s well-known Butterfly Lovers to warm the hearts of all mums.
