Singapore, 6 May 2015 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) returns to Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, Singapore Botanic Gardens on 30 May 2015 (Saturday), as part of Jubilee at the Botanics, a weekend of musical discovery, to celebrate Singapore’s golden jubilee.
Presented by Temasek, “Jubilee at the Botanics: A Weekend of Musical Discovery” consists of two free concerts by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO). The concert series takes a fresh approach to music, combining two of Singapore’s very best orchestras over one weekend bringing audiences on a journey of musical discovery
Mr Terence Ho, Executive Director of SCO, added “We’re delighted to partner with Temasek to present this gift of music to the SG50. With the uniquely Singapore concert programme, we hope to bond Singaporeans with the beauty of our music at the lawn of our national gardens.”
This commemorative concert celebrates the nation’s jubilee year with a selection of uniquely Singapore programme. SCO will perform pieces such as Phoon Yew Tien’s The Forge Ahead, Law Wai Lun’s Prince Sang Nila Utama and Singa; medley of TV theme songs including Strive from “The Awakening, Good Morning, Sir! From “Good Morning, Sir!”, Kopi-O from “Coffee Shop”, I Can Endure the Hardship from “Stepping Out”; Axi People Dancing Under The Moon rearranged by Peng Xiu Wen,Unforgettable 90s, local award-winning young composer Wang Chen Wei’s Confluence; and Singapore’s favourite classic national theme song – Dick Lee’s Home. Local singer, Tay Kewei, will host the concert and will also sing Home. This concert will be conducted by Assistant Conductor Moses Gay. Admission is free.
