Singapore, 15 October 2015 (Thursday) – The Singapore Conference Hall (SCH), then known as the Trade Union House, was a project initiated by founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew. SCH was completed in September 1965 and was officially launched on 15 October 1965. SCH was gazette as a national monument on 28 December 2010 and is now the home of the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO). This year, SCH celebrates its 50th anniversary with an open house filled with events from October to December 2015, which will give visitors a visual and aural experience as well as bring visitors on a history trail of SCH showcasing its political and cultural involvement and how it evolved to the current home of the SCO. All events are free.

Who was the original architect behind this national monument? What inspired the design of SCH? The original architect of SCH, Datuk Lim Chong Keat, will present his inspiration and concepts on the design of SCH. Datuk Lim will also explain the acoustic treatment designed for the Concert Hall with a demonstration.

SCO community concert will return to the home of SCO – the Singapore Conference Hall – to celebrate the concert hall’s 50th anniversary with a musical treat for all SCO fans. Enjoy pieces including Those Years which depicts the reminiscence of the past through the eyes of people as they mature over the years, festive Dance of the Yao People (瑶族舞曲), Memory (忆), multicultural Di Tanjong Katong & Wu Cai Bin Fen (丹绒加东与五彩缤纷) as well as Singaporeans’ favourite Home (家).
