Singapore, 14 March 2016 (Monday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) Music Oasis concert series returns to the Singapore Botanic Gardens with a music tapestry of east and west. on 2 April 2016 (Saturday), 6pm at the Singapore Botanic Gardens Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage. Admission is free.
Under the baton of SCO assistant conductor Moses Gay, SCO will perform a programme of classical western music including Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, Antonin Dvořák’s Humoresque No. 7, Op. 101 and George Gershwin’s Strike Up the Band.
Blues music will be featured in this concert with pieces from William Christopher Handy’s St. Louis Blues to Summer Palace, orchestrated by young local composer Phang Kok Jun. Audience can also enjoy other western pieces including renowned American composer Leroy Anderson’s Horse & Buggy and Fiddle Faddle.
Award-winning local composer Eric Watson’s The Ceilidh will showcase the beauty of strings instruments while Georges Bizet’s Farandole, which is based on a French play L’Arlésienne (The Woman from Arles), presents a lively piece with both marching and dancing elements in the song.
SCO Music Oasis: A Music Tapestry of East and West is held in collaboration with the National Parks Board.
