Singapore, 5 April 2016 (Tuesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)’s annual Young Children’s Concert will bring children on a music journey to explore the magical connection between music and mathematics! This concert is conceptualized by SCO’s Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, who will also take on the role of Professor Quek in the concert. Join Professor Quek on this exciting and educational music journey this holiday!
In last year’s The Little Adventurer of SCO: Fascinating Sound Waves, Professor Quek taught children about music pitch using different sound waves, highlighting the link between science and music. In this concert, children will learn to listen to the rhythm of music. Together with our animal friends, Proud Little Monkey, Daydreaming Panda, Singing Parrot and Dancing Pug, Professor Quek will introduce rhythms through the movement of these animals in the piece Animal Suites.
Children would also learn about the different musical notations using the Rhythm Tree, including semi-brave, minim, crotchet, quaver and semiquaver. Children will also learn about music time signature and its similarity to fractions in mathematics!
The concert will be presented in English, suitable for children 5 years old to 9 years old.
