Singapore, 15 April 2016 (Friday) – Sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Gift of Music Series, Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)’s Community Series: A Lifetime of Memories will be held on 14 May 2016 (Saturday), 6pm at the open field beside Block 10 Dakota Crescent. Dakota Crescent Housing Estate is one of the oldest public housing estates in Singapore, and has been planned for redevelopment from 2017. Choreographed and conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, SCO hopes to bring back beautiful memories of the Dakota Estate to the residents through this concert programme. Admission is free. Bring your family and friends along to have an unforgettable evening with us and relive the vicissitudes of time at Dakota.
The concert will commence with an energetic and retro piece, Cha Cha Mambo. Singaporean singer Tan Kexin will sing the theme song of the popular local movie 881, One Half, the youthful piece, The Medley for Young, which includes songs like Forever Young, The Young Ones and YMCA and a romantic piece, Can’t Help Falling in Love.
Two SCO musicians who stay at Dakota will be featured in this concert. Banhu musician Tao Kai Li will perform a rendition of composer Bai Jie’s Deng Jie and zhongyin suona musician Meng Jie will perform a popular piece 999 Roses. Audience can also enjoy SCO’s performance of a medley of hokkien songs, which includes Sio Bah Zang (烧肉粽), Bang Chun Hong (望春风) and Mama! Please Take Care of Yourself! (妈妈请你要保重). Popular hokkien song Ai Pia Jia Eh Yiah (爱拼才会赢) and classic nostalgic piece, The Past Can Only Be Remembered (往事只能回味) will conclude the concert.
