Singapore, 4 May 2016 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant combine music and food to present ‘Musical Bento Box’, two unique outdoor lunchtime concerts to Raffles Place executives on 19 May 2016 (Thursday) and 20 May 2016 (Friday). With SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong leading the hour-long performance of melodious music, the concerts will take place at the atrium of UOB Plaza 1 and begin at 12 noon. Audience can also savour bento sets by Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant and complimentary premium Chinese tea by Tian Fu Tea Room. 

Preparing different set lists on both days, SCO will perform diverse music scores including familiar favourites such as Malay folk song Rasa SayangLengang Kanggung, Give Me a RoseMedley of Sichuan Folk Songs, the groovy Sway, romantic piece Can’t Help Falling in Love and Libertango, a festive composition which incorporates classical music and jazz.

Other highlights include the premiere of composer Wang Chenwei’s Curry Capriccio, SCO’s rendition of The Winds of Marina Bay, portraying the majestic skyline of Singapore’s Bayfront and the wish for Singapore’s continued prosperity, as well as sterling solo performances by SCO’s musicians. Pipa principal Yu Jia, dizi musician Zeng Zhi and erhu musician Tan Man Man will feature in Wang Dan Hong’s Colourful Jiangnan, while SCO sheng musician Kevin Cheng Ho Kwan will serenade the audience with a soulful rendition of the romantic piece, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.

While soaking up the refreshing lunchtime musical experience, audience can enjoy complimentary premium pu-er tea freshly brewed by Tian Fu Tea Room’s tea connoisseurs. They can also savour sumptuous lunch creations by Si Chuan Dou Hua Restaurant, such as a bento box of the restaurant’s signatures at $8 each, or at $10 with the Homemade Fine Bean Curd with Wolfberry.

The concert venue is supported by United Overseas Bank.
