Singapore, 25 August 2016 (Thursday) – Sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Gift of Music Series, Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) presents 2 performances of Community Concert: Musical Harmony on 24 September 2016 (Saturday), 5pm and 7.30pm at Ci Yuan Community Club Level 2 Performing Theatre. Admission is free with tickets obtainable from Ci Yuan Community Club and 5 other Ang Mo Kio-Hougang Residents’ Committee Centres.
Under the baton of SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, the orchestra will perform Overture 2004, a piece inspired by national day theme song Five Stars Arising. SCO will also perform familiar Indian tune Singai Naadu and Malay Folksong Duo to showcase the harmony between different races in Singapore.
SCO zhonghu principal Lin Gao and erhu musician Hsieh I-Chieh will perform Medley of Cantonese Folk Songs. The piece uses five popular melodies of Cantonese songs including Thunderstorm and Drought, Autumn Moon over a Placid Lake, Stepping Up and Up, Colourful Clouds Chasing the Moon and Yu Le Sheng Ping.
From fellow colleagues to good friends, dizi musicians Phang Thean Siong and Lim Sin Yeo will perform The Good News, an adaptation of Henan opera piece that portrays the happiness of people upon receiving good news. This joyful piece also showcases the happy and harmonious working relationship between colleagues.
Qu Chun Quan’s arrangement of Medley of Children’s Folk Songs comprise of ten popular children’s folk songs which audience will be familiar with. SCO will perform late Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng’s renowned classics including The Moon Represents My Heart, Story of the Little Town and Sweet Love.
SCO Community Series performs at heartlands, bringing a series of great music to the neighbourhood.
