Singapore, 28 December 2016 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) presents Community Concert titled East Coast Capriccio on 7 January 2017 (Saturday), 6pm at East Coast Park’s Angsana Green, Area E, beside East Coast Lagoon Food Village. Enjoy the cooling sea breeze as you enjoy the melodious Chinese orchestral music with your family and friends! This concert is part of “Arts by the Sea” – Joo Chiat Community Arts & Culture Node Signature Event.
To be conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, SCO will perform a selection of sea-inspired and family-themed repertoire such as Xu Jing Xin’s First Movement: Rising Sun of the Eastern Seas, Ma Sheng Long and Gu Guan Ren’s classic Chinese orchestra piece Fishermen’s Song of the Eastern Seas. SCO will also perform Romanian folk tune Skylark and Shandong folk tune Hundreds of Birds Adoring a Phoenix to portray the natural habitat in the park. SCO dizi musician Zeng Zhi will perform the bangdi in Skylark to mimic the sound of the birds while suona musicians Chang Le and Meng Jie will perform in Hundreds of Birds Adoring a Phoenix.
Children can also dance along to Qu Chun Quan’s Medley of Children’s Folk Songs and Liong Kit Yeng’s Medley of Musical Equations in a fun-filled musical evening! The concert will end in the evening with a medley of Singapore’s pioneer xinyao singer-songwriter Liang Wern Fook’s songs.
