Singapore, 11 January 2017 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) and Deutsche Bank will present a festive lunchtime concert, Joy of Spring on 25 January 2017 (Wednesday), 12pm at One Raffles Quay, South Tower Lobby. Admission is free.
With Chinese New Year just round the corner, SCO will perform numerous festive Chinese New Year tunes including Liu Ming Yuan’s Full of Joy, Yao Min’s Spring Breeze Kisses My Face (春风吻上我的脸) and Tian Mi Mi (甜蜜蜜) and Law Wai Lun’s rearrangement of Celebrating the New Year (贺新年). Audience can enjoy Liong Kit Yeng’s arrangement of Flavours of Spring which comprises of classic oldies – Morning in Spring, Spring in the Alley and Spring at Zhongshan turned into contemporary tunes. Huang Zhi Yao’s Return of Spring to SG is a rearrangement of the festive piece, The Tune of Spring, which comprises of malay, indian and jazz music elements, reflecting the multi-racial society of Singapore.
Audience can also enjoy the romantic piece Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, which features SCO zhongyin sheng musician Zhong Zhi Yue. Local composer Phang Kok Jun’s Rose Dance of the Yi People combines guzheng concerto The Dance of the Yi People and famous suona concerto Nine Hundred and Ninety-nine Roses (九百九十九朵玫瑰）into a musical conversation between the guzheng and suona. The guzheng will be performed by SCO guzheng musician Xu Hui while the suona will be performed by SCO suona musician Chang Le. The finale of the concert will feature Deutsche Bank staff, SCO percussion musicians Xu Fan and Ngoh Kheng Seng together with the SCO ensemble to present Dancing of Golden Snake (金蛇狂舞).
