Singapore, 5 April 2017 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will perform at Telok Blangah, as part of its Community Series concerts. SCO Community Concerts is sponsored by the Singapore Press Holdings Gift of Music Series. This concert titled SCO @ Telok Blangah will be held on 29 April 2017 (Saturday), 6pm at the carpark in front of Telok Blangah Community Club. SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong will conduct.
The concert starts with a piece filled with kampong flavour. Telok Blangah residents will get to enjoy local composer Phoon Yew Tien’s Village Pasir Panjang. Law Wai Lun’s Prince Sang Nila Utama and Singa, a piece composed based on the legend of Singapura and how Singapore got its name. Telok Blangah Community Club’s malay dance group, Puteri-Puteri Nur AL Amin, will perform together with SCO on stage in this piece.
Wang Hui Ran’s Dance of the Yi People which won the International 20th century Chinese Music Classic Award, will be performed by SCO zhongruan musician Cheng Tzu Ting with the SCO ensemble. SCO husband and wife couple, erhu associate principal Ling Hock Siang and erhu musician She Ling, will perform upbeat and jubilant piece, Horse Racing.
SCO will also perform the lively piece, Rhythm of Rain and a medley of evergreen Chinese oldies The Past Can Only Be Remembered, which consists of five songs including The Past Can Only Be Remembered, Poems of Autumn, Where is my Home?, Circles, Seagull and Meilan, Meilan, I Love You.
