Singapore, 30 June 2017 (Friday) – Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) will present its annual concert – Exuberance of Youth II on 22 July 2017 (Saturday), 8pm at Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Auditorium. This concert will serve as a sequel to the concert held last year, and would be a glorious local performance for them after their successful China concert tour in Beijing and Shanghai in June. The young musicians will showcase their musicality and technical virtuosity under the baton of SNYCO Music Director Quek Ling Kiong and Music Director of the Shanxi Provincial Song and Dance Theater National Orchestra, Sun Peng.
Sun Peng is the first-prize winner of the Hong Kong International Conducting Competition for Chinese Music in 2011 and was presented with the Best Interpretation of Works of Hong Kong Award. For this special annual concert, Sun Peng will collaborate with recipient of the National Arts Council’s (NAC) Singapore Young Artist Award (2002), SNYCO Music Director Quek Ling Kiong to present an exciting programme demonstrating the youthful vigour and flair the young musicians. SNYCO members were given an opportunity to contribute to the repertoire of this exceptional concert; resulting in the inclusion of their choice piece – Wang Dan Hong’s Dynamic Plucked Strings.
This concert will also feature the first and second prize winners of the National Chinese Music Competition’s Erhu Open category – SNYCO members Li Siyu and Low Likie respectively. The two erhu soloists will perform Singaporean young composer Phang Kok Jun’s double erhu concerto Storytellers on Ann Siang Road. The national youth Chinese orchestra will also perform a myriad of orchestral and chamber music, including Feng Xiao Quan’s The Soaring Chinese Music, Chow Jun Yi’s Momentum, and Zhao Ji Ping’s Impressions of Macau.
