Singapore, 25 July 2017 (Tuesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) returns to the Singapore School of the Arts (SOTA) to jointly present SCO Campus Rhapsody: SCO & SOTA Goes Folk. SCO Campus Rhapsody is an initiative to cultivate arts development and to nurture future generations of musicians. This concert will collaborate with students from SOTA and will be conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. SCO Campus Rhapsody will be held at the SOTA Concert Hall on 3 August 2017 (Thursday), 7.30pm. Admission is free with ticket registration.
The concert will start with a Chinese percussion ensemble of 10 students from SOTA, performing Drum Poem by Li Zhen Gui and Tan Dun. Three SOTA students will also perform with SCO to present Birds Returning to the Woods composed by Yi Jian Quan and arranged by Sim Boon Yew; Grasslands Fantasia by Law Wai Lun and Tan Kah Yong; and Jasmine by Liu Wen Jin.
This concert will world premiere Low Likie’s Obscurity. Low Likie is a student from SOTA as well as an erhu member of the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra. This is Low Likie’s new composition, inspired by the ups and downs in the composer’s life.
SCO will also perform Menari Dari Kampung by Sim Boon Yew and the Third movement: Water Falling Day from Kuan Nai-chung’s Taiwan’s Four Seasons.
