Singapore, 18 September 2017 (Monday) – This October, immerse your little ones with magical stories to intrigue their imagination! Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)’s Concert for Little Tots this year will make classic Chinese stories come alive! Concert for Little Tots – Tales & Legends will be held on 7 October 2017, 10.30am and 4pm, at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Auditorium.
This concert aims to adopt creative methods of music and children’s stories to intrigue emotions through a child’s sense of hearing with their imagination through storytelling. Children will be brought on a whimsical musical journey with SCO Assistant Conductor Moses Gay and established children storyteller Kamini Ramachandran, who will unfold stories with her enthusiastic narration which are sure to bring bouts of happiness to the young audience. The three classic Chinese stories are The Magic Paintbrush, Tikki Tikki Tembo, and The Seven Chinese Brothers, and will be complemented with the music from SCO.
Kamini Ramachandran is the co-founder of Moonshadow Stories, which strongly believes in the re-introduction and reinforcement of storytelling in parents, thus benefitting children. She was also described as “Singapore’s most mesmerizing storyteller” by Professor Tommy Koh at the International Summit of the Book.
Chinese folk tale The Magic Paintbrush, will be accompanied with SCO performing Ma Liang and the Magic Paintbrush, composed by Phoon Yew Tien. Enter another world where magic exists, and everything you draw turns to reality.
The second Chinese folk tale Tikki Tikki Tembo, will be accompanied with SCO performing an excerpt from Lo Leung Fai’s Spring.
Lastly, The Seven Chinese Brothers will be expressed with three different pieces – Liu Wenjin’s First movement and Third movement from The Great Wall Capriccio, The Moon on High which is an ancient piece arranged by Peng Xiuwen, and Theme of Pioneers composed by Yu Huiyong and Hu Deng Tiao.
What can make a concert even more exciting than a fringe activity put together just for the kids? The young ones will be able to touch and try out three different instruments – erhu, dizi and pipa – half an hour before the concert. Be awed by how these instruments are played and get a chance to be a little musician!
