Singapore, 28 September 2017 (Thursday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will collaborate with TCR Music Station, for the first time, to present an evening of Singaporeans’ favourite xinyao songs. This one-night only concert, An Evening of Xinyao, will be performed on 22 October 2017 (Sunday), 7.30pm, at the Esplanade Concert Hall. An Evening of Xinyao is sponsored by Yangzheng Foundation.
Xinyao is a music genre that is unique to Singapore. Xinyao, which started in the 1980s, is a type of local folk song composed by young musicians. This concert, SCO will perform Xinyao songs, aims to create a different Xinyao experience.
An Evening of Xinyao concert will be presented in four segments to signify the different stages of Xinyao – from its budding period in the 1980s to its development and eventually to its climatic peak period and its legacy.
SCO will feature established singers, namely Li Fei Hui, Jimmy Ye, Hong Shao Xuan, Alex Su, Pan Ying, Dawn Yip, Zhou Man Qi, along with TCR New Generation, who will belt out well-known Xinyao songs composed by Liang Wern Fook, Eric Moo, Zhang Jiaqiang, Chen Jiaming and Lan Zhaopang. The SYC Ensemble Singers, under the choral directorship of Jennifer Tham, will be the chorus for the concert. Established local host, Danny Yeo, will be narrator for this concert.
