Singapore, 7 November 2017 (Tuesday) – The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will perform at the Toa Payoh HDB Hub Mall Atrium on 18 November 2017 (Saturday) at 6.00pm. This is in collaboration with the National Arts Council, as part of Arts in Your Neighbourhood, a bi-annual programme that aims to provide enriching arts experiences for everyone at their doorsteps. Titled “Yoh” at Toa Payoh, this performance is part of the SCO’s community series, which are free community concerts bringing melodic tunes of SCO to the heartlands to inspire the community. Concert admission is free.

Drawing inspiration from the last syllable of Toa Payoh, “Yoh” meaning “shake” in Hokkien, SCO will present an exhilarating repertoire of dance tunes from different regions. Under the baton of SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, SCO will perform pieces including Flying Dragon, Dancing PhoenixRed Ribbon DanceDance of Winnow and KiteDance of the Yao PeopleUngarishche Tanze (Hungarian Dance) No.5Pizzicato PolkaMambo No. 5 and Dance of the Golden Snake.

SCO yangqin musician Ma Huan will perform Zhong Zhi Yue’s arrangement of River Dance; SCO suona musician Chang Le and guzheng musician Xu Hui will perform Phang Kok Jun’s Rose Dance of the Yi Tribe together.
