Singapore, 10 November 2017 (Friday) – Immerse yourself in an evening of concert filled with Taiwanese flavour, which will be conducted by established Taiwanese conductor Liu Chiang-Pin. Portraits of Taiwan will be held on 25 November 2017 (Saturday), 8pm, at the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Auditorium.

Taiwanese conductor Liu Chiang-Pin studied conducting under master conductor Huang Xiaotong and achieved an award for “Excellent and Outstanding Conducting” which was presented by the Mayor of Hsinchu. He was also listed as the “Top 100 Artistes” in Hsinchu and has since held numerous international arts showcases, such as the “Hsinchu Chinese Music Festival” for five seasons.

Taiwanese liuqin virtuoso Chen I-Chien will perform with SCO to perform Su Wen Cheng’s liuqin and orchestra piece Courtyard After The Rain. Chen I-Chien is currently an associate professor at the Tainan National University of Arts, and is also a composer whose composition Strum and Pluck won the Best Composition Award at the 27th Golden Melody Awards.

SCO’s gaohu associate principal Zhou Ruo Yu will perform Lu Yun’s erhu concerto The Lord of Western Qin. Zhou Ruo Yu is an erhu player who has won many awards with her virtuosic erhu skills, including the first prize at the 4th “Tianhua Cup” National Erhu Competition in 2001.

SCO will also perform works including Sui Li Jun’s The Wind City Overture which illustrates the beauty of the music of Northeast China; Lo Leung Fai’s Autumn; and Wang Dan Hong’s Ode to the Sun, a piece that draws on indigenous folk elements of the Bayu area and depicts the landscape of the mountains and rivers of Sichuan.
