Singapore, 9 January 2018 (Tuesday) – Bask in the Chinese New Year atmosphere with SCO this January as SCO returns ‘home’! SCO Concert Hall re-opens this year for SCO’s annual branded concert Rhapsodies of Spring 2018 which will feature renowned violinist Lu Siqing and local artistes Mark Lee and Chen Biyu. Rhapsodies of Spring 2018: Home for the New Year will be held on 26 and 27 January (Friday and Saturday), 8pm, at the SCO Concert Hall. This concert will be conducted by SCO Music Director Tsung Yeh.

Lu Siqing was the first asian violinist to be awarded the first prize at the prestigious Paganini International Violin Competition in 1987. He has since collaborated and performed with world esteemed musicians and leading orchestras all over the world. He is currently the Artistic Director of the National Centre for the Performing Arts May Festival, and has received numerous international honours for his outstanding artistic achievement and social contributions, including the Honorary Certificate from the United States House of Representatives, New Jersey Outstanding Achievement in Arts Award for Asian, and California Senate Honorary Certificate. He will be performing Antonio Vivaldi’s violin concerto Spring from The Four Seasons, Chen Gang’s Golden Furnace, and Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy arranged by Chen Gang, Tan Shu Zhen and Zhang Zhen Shan.

Mark Lee is a household name audiences are familiar with. He has been consistently voted as one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes at the annual Star Awards, and has also won numerous awards for the Best Variety Show Host. Chen Biyu, a dedicated DJ of Love 97.2FM, has been awarded the Best Programme Host for Love Chinese Oldies at the 2004 Golden Mike Awards and the Breakthrough Personality of the Year – a Mediacorp Radio Award. In this concert, Mark Lee will co-host with Chen Biyu for the first time with SCO, and co-narrate Kuan Nai-chung’s Instrumental Guide to the Chinese Orchestra. He will also sing a medley consisting of HomecomingGong Xi Fa Cai and New Year Medley re-arranged by Zhong Zhi Yue, and Spring Suite V re-arranged by Sim Boon Yew.

SCO will also perform pieces including Li Huanzhi’s Spring Festival Overture and The Reunion Dinner, a movie directed by Anthony Chen and composed by Law Wai Lun.
