Singapore, 8 February 2018 (Thursday) – The Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will perform at Xinmin Secondary School on 21 February (Wednesday), 7.30pm as part of the Campus Rhapsody concert series. SCO will perform a repertoire of spring melodies to celebrate the Chinese New Year festive. This hour-long concert is in collaboration with Xinmin Secondary School and will be conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. Admission is free.
SCO will perform pieces including Nie Er’s Spring Dawn on the Emerald Lake, A Bumper Harvest arranged by Peng Xiuwen, and Melodies of Spring an arrangement by Sim Boon Yew incorporating excerpts of spring works such as Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring and Johann Strauss’s Voices of Spring.
SCO pipa principal Yu Jia will lead the orchestra in an evergreen pipa and orchestra piece Blossoms on a Spring Moonlit Night. Erhu musician Tan Man Man will perform with the orchestra the first movement from When the Rivers Thaw in Spring by Jin Fuzai. Dizi musician Phang Thean Siong will perform Spring Orchid by Zhao Songting and Cao Xing with SCO.
