Singapore, 14 March 2018 (Wednesday)  The annual combined orchestra concert – Dauntless Spirit 2018 – which the Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) will perform alongside with the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) on 17 March 2018 (Saturday), 8pm, at the SCO Concert Hall is sold out!

 

SNYCO members will perform a programme of masterpieces by renowned composers in this annual concert, and will be conducted by three conductors: SNYCO Music Director Quek Ling Kiong, SNYCO Advisor Tsung Yeh and SNYCO Associate Conductor Moses Gay.

 

In the first segment of the concert, SNYCO Music Director Quek Ling Kiong and SNYCO Associate Conductor Moses Gay will lead the youth orchestra to perform Zhao Ji Ping’s Flying Apsaras, Rao Yu-yan’s Hymn of Mount Li and Wang Ning’s Festivity.

 

The second segment features the SCO with two SNYCO members, erhu member Deborah Siok Li Chin and pipa principal Chen Xinyu, who will respectively perform Wang I-Yu’s erhu and orchestra piece The Blue Planet – Earth and Zhao Cong’s pipa and orchestra piece Apsaras on the Silk Road.

 

In the final segment under the baton of SNYCO Advisor Tsung Yeh, the combined orchestra SNYCO and SCO will present Peng Xiu Wen’s Summer Night and Vicissitudes of Life from Symphony Jinling.

About SNYCO

The Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) is made up of more than 90 talented musicians between the ages of 11 to 26. SNYCO is managed by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra Company Limited, and is under the purview of the National Arts Council and supported by the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth since 1 April 2015. SNYCO is under the music directorship of Quek Ling Kiong with Tsung Yeh as the advisor and Moses Gay as the associate conductor. Only the finest musicians are selected to be members through the rigorous auditions held each year. As a National Project of Excellence recognised by the Ministry of Education, SNYCO strives to nurture aspiring musicians into future pillars of Chinese music in Singapore.
