Singapore, 25 April 2018 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)’s annual favourite Mother’s Day Concert this year collaborates with SPH Radio’s mandarin station UFM100.3 and Singaporean singer-songwriter Ling Kai to stage a night of heartwarming pieces and entertainment for beloved mothers. Under the baton of SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, SCO Mother’s Day Concert will be held on 12 May 2017 (Saturday), 8pm, at the SCO Concert Hall.

 

UFM100.3 is a highly-charged Mandarin music station targeting at working professionals aged between 35 – 44 years old. The station plays popular and familiar mandarin hits, with engaging lifestyle content and current hot topics for busy individuals. UFM100.3 DJs who will be participating in this concert include Limei, Xiaozhu, Andrew, Kemin, Yuling, Xinying, Weilong and Chengyao, who will host and narrate in this concert.

 

Ling Kai is a Singaporean alternative pop-rock bilingual singer-songwriter who is known for taking part in Chinese reality TV singing show, Sing My Song 《中国好歌曲》, and emerging as the crowned winner of the team mentored by veteran singer-songwriter Tanya Chua. Her first self-written song Larkin Step has hit 1 million views on Youtube. In this concert, she will perform her two compositions – My Mother’s Umbrella and Eighteen.

 

SCO liuqin musician Zhang Li is a member of the examination committee in the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. She has also participated in the Shanghai Spring International Music Festival and Macau International Music Festival. She will be performing Su Wen-Cheng and Cheng Tsui-Ping’s liuqin concerto Beyond the Horizon

 

SCO erhu musician She Ling, who won the First Prize at the Juvenile Category of the Hunan Province Erhu Competition and Third Prize in the Dragon Cup Competition organized by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, will perform established Chinese composer Wang Danhong’s erhu and orchestra work String of Lingnan.

 

SCO will also perform Law Wai Lun’s re-arrangement of The Legend of Condor Heroes Trilogy, Autumn When’s Thank You, the re-arrangement of For Her by Tan Kah Yong which includes Mother’s Words, Mother I Love You and Listen to Mother’s Words, Kenn Wu and Iris Judotter’s Mama, How Are You? and an Anita Mui Medleyconsisting of her famous songs – Sunset Melody, Woman Flower, Intimate Lover, The Years Flow Like Water, and Manjusaka.

 

Stories of the audiences and their mothers that were collected prior to the concert over the radio will be announced on the day of the concert during DJ Chengyao’s segment: Mother’s Story.

 

This concert is in collaboration with UFM100.3.
