SCO’s gaohu musician Xu Wen Jing is known for her pure and clear tone on the erhu, and her ability to evoke deep and poignant emotions with her playing, which was once described by a critic as “otherworldly and beautifully smoky, Xu’s tone elucidates; her innate and sincere femininity extends from the deep to her fingertips, riding on wondrous notes”. Her virtuosity has won her multiple major international and national awards.

Lin Gao, SCO’s zhonghu Principal, is an outstanding musician who will be playing the erhu in this concert. She was invited to perform at the 67th “Prague of Spring” International Music Festival and “Sharq Taronalari” in Uzbekistan where she was awarded First Prize. Not only is she a musician, she has also transposed some violin pieces in to concert works for the erhu.

SCO’s zhonghu Associate Principal Wu Ke Fei won the 2009 Chinese Chamber Music Gold Prize presented by the China Musicians Association for her amazing performing and music arranging skills in the Beijing International Youth Cultural Art Festival China-Japan Youth Perform Contest.

SCO’s cellist Helen Chen Ying Guang was the youngest student when she enrolled in to the Xinghai Conservatory of Music due to her excellent cello skills. She is currently the editor of the cello syllabus by the National University of Singapore Centre for the Arts.
