Singapore, 3 October 2018 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO)’s Community Series concert goes to MacPherson on 20 October 2018 (Saturday) at 7pm at the hardcourt between Blk 97 and 98 Aljunied Crescent. Titled “Encore, SCO!”, this series of concert presents a repertoire of SCO’s best encore pieces. Following a successful debut at Yuhua in June, the second Encore, SCO! concert will be staged at the MacPherson constituency. This concert will be conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. Admission is free.
SCO will perform renowned composer Kwan Nai Chung’s The Equatorial Soiree(赤道上的夜会), a piece of joyous percussion work from Africa which relays joyous spirits and sentiments in the music. Be entertained by SCO’s percussion musicians as they perform an energetic piece Mynah’s Bath(八哥洗澡)which describes the scene of mynahs frolicking about in water. SCO dizi musician Lee Jun Cheng would also perform Song of the Herdsmen(牧民新歌), an Inner Mongolia folk song rich in flavour from the grasslands.
The concert will also feature familiar tunes like Jay Chou’s Chrysanthemum Terrace (菊花台), theme song from the movie of the same title Those Years (那些年)and a popular taiwanese hokkien song Longing for the Spring Breeze(望春风). Chow Jun Yi’s rearrangement of a Malay folk song Lenggang Kangkung will also be performed at the concert, along with Indian folk song Munnaeru Valiba, in celebration of multicultural vibrancy in Singapore. Rounding off the show, would be Sim Boon Yew’s arrangement of a medley of children songs, Songs for Little Angels (天使之歌)and Dance of the Golden Snake(金蛇狂舞), definitely an exciting finale for enjoyment within the family.
The concert is co-organised by the MacPherson Citizens’ Consultative Committee in celebration of Macpherson’s 50th Anniversary in 2018.
