Singapore, 23 October 2018 (Tuesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) collaborates with the Chinese music students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) to perform a one-night only concert at the SCO Concert Hall. This concert is part of the SCO Campus Rhapsody series, which endeavours to create a platform for aspiring music students to perform with the national orchestra.Titled SCO-NAFA Campus Rhapsody 2018, this concert will be conducted by SCO Assistant Conductor Moses Gay and will be held on 1 November 2018 (Thursday), 7.30pm.
This concert will present the combined SCO and NAFA musicians performing young composers’ works and familiar pieces. SCO will kick-start the concert with renowned composer Jiang Ying’s Impressions of Chinese Music and Wang Dan Hong’s Fourth movement from Ode to Sun.
28 Chinese music students from NAFA will then take the stage to perform Wang Dan Hong’s Heavenly Grassland, Chow Jun Yi’s Zen Thought and Li Bo Chan’s The Ancient Tea-Horse.
The combined SCO and NAFA ensemble will perform a Bob Creve and Bob Gandio pop piece Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, which was rearranged by SCO sheng musician, Zhong Zhi Yue. Zhong Zhi Yue will also be performing the solo segment of this piece with the combined ensemble. Rounding off the concert by the combined orchestra would be Law Wai Lun’s TV Golden Melody, which consists of a medley of Singapore television drama theme songs where Singaporeans who grew up in the 1980s and 1990s would be familiar with. They include: The Awakening, Good Morning, Sir! and Kopi-O.
