Singapore, 2 January 2019 (Wednesday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s (SCO) Lunchtime Concert returns to One Raffles Quay, to share Chinese New Year festive cheer to working professionals in Raffles Place. Deutsche Bank–SCO Lunchtime Concert: Joyous Melodies will be held on 25 January 2019 (Friday), 12 noon, at One Raffles Quay (South Tower). This one-hour concert will be conducted by SCO Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. Hosted alongside the lunchtime concert will be the Deutsche Bank Lunar New Year Charity Marketplace, where six charities and social enterprise will set up stalls to raise funds and awareness. Admission to the concert and charity marketplace is free.
The SCO ensemble will perform festive tunes such as Radiant with Joy（喜洋洋）and Nocturnal Peace（良宵） in anticipation of Chinese New Year, with SCO’s erhu associate principal Ling Hock Siang performing the erhu in Nocturnal Peace. To usher in the year of the pig, the SCO ensemble will also perform Mao Hui’s Song of the Pig （猪之歌） and A Roar of Laughter Over the Sea（沧海一声笑）.
The concert will also present familiar English tunes, with yangqin musician Ma Huan performing Bill Whelan’s River Dance. John Denver’s favourite Take Me Home, Country Road will also be performed by the ensemble. SCO dizi musician Lee Jun Cheng will perform Romanian folk music Skylark（云雀）.
The SCO ensemble will also perform a familiar english tune Somewhere Over The Rainbow together with Deustche Bank stagg. Audiences will also be enjoy a familiar Chinese New Year favourite, with a sing-along session featuring Deutsche Bank staff in The Return of Spring（大地回春）in the finale of the concert.
