Guzheng

Nice to meet you adventurer, I am Lady Guzheng. The instrument here that sounds like running water is called the Guzheng, a plucked string instrument. It has a long history of about 2500 years since the Qin Dynasty of China. Click on the audio to listen to the Guzheng.

Like the Guzheng, another instrument has a similar power to produce sound like running water. Scroll down to learn more about it.

Harp

I am Princess Harp. The sound is from this ancient plucked string instrument called Harp. Having a longer history than the Guzheng, it first appeared on the wall paintings of ancient Egyptian tombs in 3000 B.C.

It can also produce the sounds of raindrops or running water! Click on the audio to listen to it!

Zhongruan

I am Ah Girl and this instrument here is the Zhongruan. Both the Zhongruan and the Daruan comes from the family of the Ruan! When all of the Ruans unite, it can create a miracle!

Daruan

My name is Ah Gor, and the instrument I am holding is called the Daruan. Different from the sound the Guzheng and the Harp create, the Ruans create sounds that is similar to that of camels strolling on a hot and dry desert. Have a listen to the audio!

Sanxian

I am Ding Dong Ding. This instrument here is the only plucked string instrument with only 3 strings, and it is called the Sanxian. Click and listen to the sound!

Head further down and get to know the Twins of Plucked string. They look quite alike but they aren’t the same.

Liuqin

I am Ding Ding, the Liuqin. Together with the Pipa, we are known as the twins of plucked strings. Although we look the same, we do not sound the same. Click to hear the difference.

Pipa

I am Dong Dong, the Pipa. We create the sounds of the raindrop. The sound has been an inspiration for many! Can you tell the difference between us and the Liuqin? Click on the audio to find out more.

Yangqin

I am the Queen of Yangqin. The Yangqin is a plucked string instrument with a total of 144 strings. The Yangqin sounds as if it has created the most raindrops and bubbles through the mesmerizing melody. Have a listen to the audio.
