Music by renowned local composer Phoon Yew Tien takes centre stage inDauntless Spirit 2016, the latest instalment of the annual showcase for the combined talents of the SYCO and the SCO. This is the only concert in this season that will feature all the three SCO and SYCO conductors – Tsung Yeh, Quek Ling Kiong and Moses Gay. SYCO dizi musician Sherman Lee Le Xuan and pipa musician Yu Man will perform dizi concerto Xin Tian You and pipa concerto The Five Heroes of Lang Ya Mountain respectively. SCO’s composer-in-residence, Phoon Yew Tien, has made tremendous contributions to the growth of Chinese orchestra music through his work. This concert will highlight the rich diversity of his compositions. As part of SCO’s 20^th anniversary celebration, SYCO alumni members are invited to perform in this concert as a form of reconnecting relationships through music-making.
