A tale about a mother’s selfless love for her son, The Goddess is one of the best known films from the golden age of Chinese cinema, and stars Shanghai silent film legend Ruan Lingyu as the devoted mother.

A self-sacrificing mother sells herself to care for her infant son and ends up working under a gangster, who forces her back on the streets when she attempts to flee and make an honest living. As her son starts going to school, she begins hiding money away for his school fees, but this gets stolen by the gangster. At her wit’s end, she is forced to take drastic action

Led by Cultural Medallion 2013 recipient and Music Director Tsung Yeh, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra performs to a screening of this classic silent film, with music specially composed and rearranged by established Singapore composer Law Wai Lun and Hong Kong musical talent Lincoln Lo.
