This concert features pipa masters Zhang Qiang and Yang Jing, and SCO’s pipa principal Yu Jia – as they present two nights of classic and modern pipa programme with the SCO. On the first night (23 Nov), Zhang Qiang will perform Dance of Yi People, Yang Jing will perform Qin Se Po and Yu Jia will perform Little Sisters of the Grassland. On the 2nd night, they will play Gu Guan Ren’s Hua Mu Lan, Along the Strategic Pass and Liu De Hai’s The Swans respectively. The finale of the concert is a specially commissioned concerto grosso by renowned Chinese composer Kuan Nai-chung – Joy of A Toast and A Whirling Dance – for the three musicians, which will world premiere at this concert.
