Singapore, 10 January 2022 (Monday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) collaborates with Mediacorp Radio Capital 958 FM DJs yet again, to present this annual favourite Chinese New Year concert Rhapsodies of Spring. Conducted by SCO Music Director, Tsung Yeh, the Rhapsodies of Spring 2022 concert will be a live concert performance for two nights and also broadcasted on various platforms, to bring festive cheers to all - beyond geographical boundaries. Online viewers and audience members who watch live concerts at the Singapore Conference Hall will all be in for a treat!

The tiger soars into the sky and ushers in the year with joy and happiness!

Singapore Chinese Orchestra collaborates with Mediacorp Capital 958FM DJs yet again, to present this annual favourite Chinese New Year concert Rhapsodies of Spring 2022. Conducted by SCO Music Director, Tsung Yeh, the concert will be a live concert performance and broadcasted on various online platforms on a later date! DJs Yeow Seng Yong and Li Yisha will host the festive programme while SCO musicians Lee Jun Cheng, Wu Xiangyang, Benjamin Boo, Tan Manman and Liu Zhiyue will put up a wonderful performance, getting audience members in a celebratory mood for this joyous occasion. A Chinese New Year micro-short film featuring SCO gaohu musician Liu Zhiyue will premiere in the concert, accompanied by a specially commissioned score performed live by SCO. Don’t miss it!

The Rhapsodies of Spring 2022 concert will be held on 14 and 15 January 2022 (Friday & Saturday) 8pm, at the Singapore Concert Hall. Tickets have been sold out.

For the very first time, the Rhapsodies of Spring 2022 concert will be aired on national television Channel 8 on the first day of Lunar New Year 1 February 2022, 12pm. In addition, the concert will also be broadcasted on SCO Facebook page, Mediacorp radio CAPITAL 958 and their Facebook page, as well as 8world Entertainment Life Facebook page, 8world Youtube and wechat platform.

DJs Yeow Seng Yong 邱胜扬and Li Yisha 李一莎will host the festive programme. As usual, SCO will perform festive pieces to welcome the Chinese New Year, which will include audience’s all-time favourite Li Huanzhi’s Spring Festival Overture《春节序曲》, adapted by Sim Boon Yew.

To usher in the year of Tiger, SCO will perform The Little Cowherd《小放牛》, a piece rearranged by Liu Sen and orchestration by Zhang Weiliang; Bull Battling the Tiger《牛斗虎》, rearranged by Wang Baocan and Tan Dun’s Crouching Tiger Concerto (Excerpts) 《卧虎藏龙》选段. In addition, the orchestra will also present Law Wai Lun’s The Goddess Overture: Old Shanghai《神女》序曲:《老上海》, getting audience members in a celebratory mood for this joyous occasion.

Keeping up the momentum, a Chinese New Year micro-short film featuring SCO gaohu musician Liu Zhiyue will premiere in the concert, accompanied by a specially commissioned score performed live by SCO. This marks Liu Zhiyue’s first attempt in acting, and his role as the main lead in this micro-short film. Soulmate 《知音》tells a story about a failed relationship between father and son, and how their love is reconnected on a Chinese New Year’s Eve through music. In the film, the erhu becomes a symbol of dad’s love and a hint of the Chinese heritage, leading the conflict evolves into something in sync.

SCO will then round up the Rhapsodies of Spring 2022 concert with Law Wai Lun’s rendition of Celebrating The New Year《贺新年 》, ushering in a new year of strength and power.

As we welcome the year tiger, SCO will also be presenting three more concerts in January. More details will be confirmed at a later date. Stay tuned to SCO’s website and social media platforms.

Spring has come and flowers are blooming! Celebrate the arrival of Spring with Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) this January as we bring you some lunar new year festive music at the Singapore Botanic Gardens to usher in the Year of Tiger! As part of Arts@SBG: NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Gardens, under the baton of Associate Conductor Moses Gay, audiences will be able to enjoy works like Tiger Bracing for Attack, Radiant with Joy and Spring Festival Medley as you bask under the sun over the luscious grassland. Grab your picnic mat and join us at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage for a celebration as we welcome the year of Tiger!

26 January Deutsche Bank - SCO Lunchtime Concert 2022

Not feeling the mood of Lunar New Year yet? Fret not! Join the Singapore Chinese Orchestra this January for a joyous celebration of this special occasion! Jointly brought to you by Deutsche Bank and SCO, under the baton of Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, audiences will be able to enjoy pieces like Overture-Dance of the Golden Snake, Spring and God of Fortune Blesses the New Year, welcoming the year of Tiger with a bang!

29 January  Bedok Heartbeat

SCO brings the Lunar New Year atmosphere into the community, livening up the festive mood! Under the baton of Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, SCO will be presenting festive pieces such as Full of Joy and God of Fortune Blesses the New Year, and familiar pieces like Spring Breeze Kisses My Face and Tian Mi Mi, to welcome the year of Tiger. Indulge in SCO's festive-filled performance, right at Bedok Heartbeat!
