Singapore, 5 April 2022 (Tuesday) – Following the news of the long-awaited full comeback this March with full orchestra and full audience capacity, Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) will be presenting Music Tuesdays: Transcending Time and Space – A Huqin Recital. Online viewers and audience members who watch live concerts at the SCO Concert Hall will all be in for a treat!

Music Tuesdays: Transcending Time and Space – A Huqin Recital

This is a huqin recital concert curated and performed by two young huqin musicians Hu Chung-Chin and Liu Zhiyue, bringing you on a musical time travel. Catch their charming performance on 12 April 2022 (Tuesday), 7:30pm. Watch it live in our concert hall and digitally on SISTIC Live. The concert video will also be available on SISTIC, limit to 5 views, till 19 April 2022 (Tuesday), 7.30pm. Programme details can be found in Annex A.

Transcend the barriers of time and space with the melodious union of string and bow, as Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s musicians Hu Chung-Chin and Liu Zhiyue take you on a musical time travel from the 1950s through 2010s with their huqin. Immerse yourself in an evening of musical journey with specially curated pieces, from well-known works “Reflection of the Moon on Erquan” and “Fishermen’s Song at Dusk”, to the spirited tunes of “Dance of the Amis” and “Maiden Taohua Crossing the River”, the harmonious duet of “The Rhyme of Strings”, and the virtuosic “Erhu Rhapsody No. 5- Hymn”. Leave the hustle and bustle of city life behind and step into the wonderous world of huqin!

Sharing by the musicians – Good friends at work, and now finally a proper collaboration after their competition win in 2019

This special Tuesday evening marks the gathering of two friends from the Huqin family. Gaohu musicians Hu Chung-Chin and Liu Zhiyue became good friends in the orchestra, after Hu Chung-chin joined SCO in 2017. The duo even collaborated and took part in the 2019 Second Shanghai Erhu Arts Week, where Hu Chung-chin performed an erhu piece The Rhyme of Strings, composed by Liu Zhiyue. This piece will also be performed during the Music Tuesdays: Transcending Time and Space – A Huqin Recital concert.

Music Tuesdays: Transcending Time and Space – A Huqin Recital features music selected from different eras and different regions. This includes: Ancient Tune Fishermen’s Song at Dusk from 1925 and the Erhu Rhapsody No.5 – Hymn from 2019. This musical time travel from ancient times to the present, and the combination of time and space reflects different music styles during the different eras.
