Singapore, 27 December 2022 (Thursday) – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) welcomes in the Year of rabbit with our annual flagship Chinese New Year concert - Rhapsodies of Spring. This year, audiences will be in for a treat as SCO will be collaborating with the famous local vocal band, MICappella, bringing you familiar Chinese New Year tunes together with the orchestra. SCO will also be collaborating with Mediacorp CAPITAL958 Presenters, hyping up the mood for this festive season!
Usher in the Year of the Rabbit with Singapore Chinese Orchestra, as we collaborate with Mediacorp CAPITAL958 to present the annual Chinese New Year concert Rhapsodies of Spring 2023! With presenters Lin Lingzhi and Pan Jiabiao as hosts, SCO’s Percussion Duet - Benjamin Boo and Derek Koh - will take the stage and drum to the festive beats, while local vocal band MICappella serenade the audience with their spectacular performance of Evolution of Chinese Music and CRAZY SMOOTH Chinese New Year Medley, all under the baton of newly minted Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. Come decked in festive clothing and put yourself in a celebratory mood this lunar new year, and join us at the SCO concert hall or on various online platforms at a later date!
Conducted by the newly-minted Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, Rhapsodies of Spring 2023 concert will be held on 13 and 14 January 2023 (Friday & Saturday), 7:30pm, at SCO Concert Hall.
Mr Quek Ling Kiong shared, “Three highlights in the concert that are not to be missed. Firstly, the concert marries the lyrical performance of MICappella 麦克疯 with the brilliant sounds of music produced by SCO. Next, we will bring you creative rearrangement of popular and evergreen lunar new year tunes, and add a twist to traditional classics. Lastly, the music pieces are arranged by talented local composers, and performed by brilliant artists and musicians. A not-to-be missed, fun and uniquely Singapore Chinese New Year concert to be enjoyed with family and friends!”
For those who cannot get enough of SCO after catching us on 13 or 14 Jan, you can also catch Rhapsodies of Spring on national television Channel 8 on the first day of Lunar New Year, 22 January 2023, 1.30pm. In addition, the concert will also be broadcasted on the following Facebook pages: SCO, Mediacorp CAPITAL958, 8world News, 8world Entertainment Life. SCO and 8world YouTube channels will be broadcasting the concert as well. This is also the first time that Mr Quek will be conducting the Rhapsodies of Spring series concert.
Hosted by radio presenters Lin Lingzhi and Pan Jiabiao, ROS2023 will kick off with a bang by presenting “The New Millennium of the Dragon Year, Mvt 4: The Earth”, a percussion duet piece composed by Kuan Nai-Chung, performed by percussion principal Benjamin Boo and percussionist Derek Koh.
Following next will be “Spring Festival ∙ Chinese Festival” by Wang Danhong and “Romantic Encounter”, rearranged by Liong Kit Yeng based on Yao Min’s composition and an Indonesian folk song.
Next up, which is the highlight of the concert, audiences will be able to sing along with MICappella as they bring about familiar Chinese New Year pieces such as Evolution of Chinese Music and CRAZY SMOOTH Chinese New Year Medley, with the orchestra, bringing the energy up to the next level!
Lastly, SCO will then round up the Rhapsodies of Spring 2023 concert with groovy festive piece “Spring Love” composed by Sulwyn Lok.

Not only that, the orchestra will also be presenting two pieces which hold the collective memories of Singaporeans, titled Friendship Forever and Di Tanjong Katong.
