Reward the queen of your life with a special Mother’s Day concert by the SCO! Under the baton of Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong, join SCO and Xinyao veteran artist Alex Su at SCO’s annual flagship Mother's Day Concert, as we bring you heart-warming favourites that promise to delight.
Doctor Alex Su has been a medical doctor since 1991 and has devoted his medical career to looking after patients with mental health conditions. The experience of being a doctor and a psychiatrist with the opportunity to help people in improving their quality of life and illness management has also helped Dr Su in enriching his own life experience that he could infuse into his singing.
In this single-night Mother’s Day concert, he would be performing crowd favourites such as Cloud River, lyrics and music by Liu Chia-Chang, orchestration by Ong Jiin Joo; Cloud of Romance, lyrics by Chiung Yao, music by Gu Yue, orchestration by Ong Jiin Joo; When You Are Old, lyrics by William Butler Yeats, Zhao Zhao, music by Zhao Zhao, orchestration by Ong Jiin Joo and All Mothers Are Alike, music & lyrics by Yang Yaodong, arranged by Yeo Puay Hian. The SCO would be performing Shining Days – Liu Wenzheng Medley, arranged by Law Wai Lun; In That Faraway Place, arranged by Gu Guanren; Memories of Youth, composed by Lo Leung Fai and medley The Past Can Only Be Remembered, rearranged by Lincoln Lo and Law Wai Lun.
Mark your calendars for an exciting and heartwarming Mother's Day Concert on May 13, 2023 (Sat) at 7:30 PM in the SCO Concert Hall, conducted by the talented SCO Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong. SCO presents Young Children’s Concert on 19 May 2023 (Fri), 10.30am (SOLD OUT) and 20 May 2023 (Sat), 11am (Limited tickets for sale)
Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s annual family favourite Young Children’s Concert returns once again! Resident Conductor Quek Ling Kiong will put on his Adventurer Quek Quek’s costume, and lead the children on a fun and educational music journey to discover the mystery and beauty of bowed-strings instruments.
Listen to the sounds of birds chirping and horses neighing! Where do those sounds come from? Where are the swans and honeybees? Who is reciting Tang poetry? Haha! Guess no more! All of these come from magical musical bows! Calling out to all our young friends, hesitate no more, and follow the magic of Quek Quek's baton into vast prairies, uninhabited mountains, and mysterious woods. Join us on a quest for musical bows in all shapes and sizes, and all colours of the rainbow!
The Young Children’s Concert 2023: DiSCOvering Treasures of Chinese Music – In Search of the Magical Musical Bows will be held on 19 May 2023 (Fri) 10.30am & 20 May 2023 (Sat) 11am at the SCO Concert Hall. The concert duration is approximately 1 hour.
Conductor Quek Quek will lead the audience to discover the different bowed-strings instruments in a Chinese orchestra, which include: erhu, gaohu, zhonghu, cello and double bass. The concert will be presented in English and is suitable for children of all ages. Children 2 years and above will require a ticket.
There will also be a pre-concert activity before the 20 May 2023 (Sat) 11am concert for the young adventurers. We invite you and your children to come to the concert venue earlier to participate in this hand-on activity of fixing an erhu 3D model. Starts from 10am, for ticket holders only.
In Search of the Magical Musical Bows is the last of the four concerts in this DiSCOvering Treasures of Chinese Music series, which aims to introduce Chinese orchestral music and the different sections of the Chinese orchestra. With its engaging and original storyboard, the series intends to kindle the interest of children and young adults in exploring Chinese music through the use of traditional instruments. This series of concerts was based on a set of audiobooks released by SCO, titled Musical Adventures with Quek Quek – Discover the Sounds of the Chinese Orchestra, which comprises of four books. With its story and concept by Quek Ling Kiong, written by educational expert Linda Gan and illustrated by Ah Guo (阿果), the audiobook comes with a CD of music tracks recorded by SCO. This audiobook will be available for sale during the concert at $32 ($30 for Friends of SCO members) per set.

Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) is Singapore’s only professional Chinese orchestra.
