Singapore, 1 July 2025 – Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Lien Boon Hua as its Associate Conductor of SCO, with effect from 1 July 2025. Boon Hua will join Principal Conductor Quek Ling Kiong and Associate Conductor Moses Gay as the newest member of SCO’s staff conductors. Mr Lien’s appointment as Conductor of Singapore National Youth Chinese Orchestra (SNYCO) is also renewed until 30 June 2027.
As a home-grown conductor, Lien brings a wealth of experience and passion for music to his new role. He first conducted the SNYCO in 2022 as a guest conductor, before being appointed as the Conductor of SNYCO in October 2024. He has actively contributed to SCO and SNYCO’s programme over the three years, conducting various signature events and popular outreach concerts. Lien connects well with youths from SNYCO, and led SNYCO in rehearsals and concerts. He helmed the baton for the popular SNYCO “Reunion 2” (2024), “Reunion 3” (2025) concerts, “Musical Voyage” (2023) and “Music Voyage II” (2024) concerts for the youth orchestra. He curated and conducted 4 sold-out SCO shows for the “Young Children’s Concert 2024: Karung Guni Boy”, and “Young Children’s Concert 2025: Lost Voice, Found Rhythm: A Journey of Self-Discovery with Ang Ku Kueh Girl” recently in May this year. With his profound connection to the musicians of SCO and SNYCO, alongside his remarkable versatility and familiarity of the Chinese orchestral repertoire, Lien will undoubtedly continue to uplift, inspire, and move both audiences and musicians as he steps into his new role.
SCO Principal Conductor Mr Quek Ling Kiong shared, “Boon Hua has demonstrated professionalism, artistic sensitivity, and a strong alignment with SCO’s vision as the people’s orchestra. We are confident that Boon Hua’s artistic contributions will continue to inspire the orchestra and community.”
In response to the announcement, Lien replied, “I am honoured to join the SCO family as their Associate Conductor. I am excited to have more meaningful artistic collaborations with the inspiring musicians from SCO and SNYCO, to create music together that resonates with the audience and communities that we serve in.”
