A tribute to SG60 ! “Ode to Singapore” concert concludes successfully, drawing approximately 1500 attendees!

Singapore, 30 June, 2025 — The Ode to Singapore concert, presented by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) in collaboration with the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre (SCCC), successfully wrapped up on June 28 and 29, 2025, offering a tribute to Singapore’s 60th anniversary (SG60). As part of the SG60 Weekend: A Community Celebrates, the concert captivated around 1,500 attendees and beautifully showcased Singapore’s cultural heritage and its vision for the future.

A special highlight was the concert on June 29, which had added significance with the presence of Mr Dinesh Vasu Dash, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Manpower, and Mayor, South East District, as the Guest of Honour (GOH). His attendance not only elevated the event but also underscored the symbolic nature of the celebration. This special concert is dedicated to the migrant worker community, brought together a total of 700 workers from various organisations, including the Ministry of Manpower’s Assurance, Care & Engagement Group (ACE Group), the Migrant Workers’ Centre, Migrant & Me, Aidha, and China Enterprises Association (Singapore), to jointly celebrate SG60. The concert took place at the Singapore Conference Hall, a venue rich in historical significance as the former home of the NTUC Trade Union House, symbolising the labour movement’s vital contributions to Singapore’s growth.

Additionally, to offer the GOH, distinguished guests, and migrant worker representatives a deeper understanding of the fusion of music and culture, we arranged a unique guided touch tour experience. SCO musicians personally led the guests in exploring and learning about traditional Chinese instruments, providing an interactive and heartwarming musical journey.

The programme featured an exciting visual arts component in collaboration with HiArt. Over 60 children, aged 6 to 17, expressed their vision of Singapore through painting. Their colourful and creative works were displayed alongside the live music, enriching the concert with a dynamic visual experience that highlighted the children’s unique perspectives on Singapore.

Musically, the concert featured a repertoire that reflected Singapore’s cultural and historical essence, including Singapura Overture, A Glimpse of Singapore, Liang Wern Fook Medley, and Singapore Folk Songs Medley. Each piece resonated with the unique spirit of Singapore, evoking strong emotions and a deep sense of national pride. Particularly memorable was the Singapore Folk Songs Medley, which featured iconic children’s songs such as Singapura, Lenggang Kangkung, Munnaeru Vaalibaa, and The Little White Boat, seamlessly blending the country’s multicultural heritage.
